How to prevent acid reflux

A lot of people who have problems with acid reflux for quite a while also experience persistent dry cough. This symptom typically go undetected. Most of that time period, not understanding that it's due to something more serious than simply clear cough.

When acid regurgitated back to the esophagus, the esophagus often reflex causing airway spasm that results in coughing and unexpected shortness of breath. It is a more severe complication of acid reflux which usually needs immediate treatment.

Another complex thing which could occur if acid backs to the larynx is the risk of aspiration pneumonia. It isn't the common pneumonia as the name may suggest but instead it's a medical term for acute pneumonia that calls immediate medical attention. To stop this from occurring don't lie down immediately after eating.

Although it's clear that serious kind of acid reflux or GERD can cause and/or exacerbate reflux cough, research hasn't yet firmly confirmed the connection the symptom and the state. Nevertheless, it's a thing that should be treated when possible (not the coughing symptom but the underlying cause). Before treating this 'so called reflex cough' symptom, it's a good idea to connect it with the typical symptoms of acidity to ensure the cough is due to exacerbated acid reflux( consult a doctor for additional evaluation) then choose the treatment. Take these ideas in treating reflux cough:

Take prescribed drugs including PPIs or proton pump inhibitors that reduces acid generations in the gut, nevertheless, prolonged use isn't advisable as such may result to other serious complication.
A balanced diet preventing high cholesterol food, caffeinated drinks, chocolates and citrus juices. One important rule: No hot food!
Eat correctly at the perfect time and not pass up on breakfast as much as possible.
Lose surplus pounds.
Quit smoking ( it exacerbates persistent cough and can result in bronchitis)
Sit erect one hour after meal ( gravitation enables the food to go down the belly to ensure that it will not return to the esophagus)
Delay drinking water half an hour after meal or you may have some of it while eating.
Avoid eating big meals. Little regular meal is generally preferable for those who endure acid reflux
